SIALKOT:

Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) candidate in PP-122 on Tuesday announced to ‘boycott’ the by-elections, accusing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz of rigging the polls.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Mohammad Akram won the by-elections by securing 27,291 votes while  PPP candidate Raja Aamir Khan secured only 4,797 votes, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan, which notified the results on Wednesday.

Khan made the allegations at his central election hall in Sialkot. He said that PML-N thugs had taken over polling stations and had set up camps inside the stations.

He said when PPP workers tried to remove them, they were threatened with dire consequences. Khan claimed he had complained about the violation of rules to the local election commission, which had “excused itself from taking any action”.

The PPP candidate said that the PML-N had also violated regulations by soending more than ECP rules allowed for. He said things were starting to take a turn for the worse, that the lives of his party workers were threatened. He then announced to boycott the elections, adding that he had also called back his polling agents from all polling stations.

The PML-N refused the allegations, saying that it had won fair and square.
