Foreign hands: Petitioner asks SC to ban NGOs

Petitioner says said that ‘dubious’ NGOs are responsible for the lawlessness in the country.

Our Correspondent December 03, 2012

LAHORE: Barrister Zafarullah Khan of the Watan Party has moved a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an immediate ban on all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the country and audits of their accounts and their agenda. Khan said in the petition that there was no record of what NGOs were working in Pakistan, what their purpose was and who funded them. He said that ‘dubious’ NGOs were responsible for the lawlessness in Balochistan, Karachi and other parts of the country. He said that there was no accounting of where the NGOs got their funding from and where they spent these funds. The federal government and the Ministry of Religious Affairs are named as respondents in the petition.
