KARACHI:

As the city continues to be in the grip of violence, four more men lost their lives on Saturday.

In the Iqbal Market police precinct, two armed attackers on a motorcycle shot dead an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Orangi Town. Abdul Hameed, 45, had gone to attend a wedding reception when the assailants targeted him, the police said.

A general store owner was shot dead by armed motorcyclists near Awami Chowk in Orangi Town No. 10. Two assailants on a motorcycle fired several bullets at Muhammad Daraz, 40, when he was sitting inside the shop.

In the Mithadar area, the police found the bodies of two men trussed up in gunny bags. Unidentified suspects had severely tortured the victims before shooting them multiple times, police said. The men were later identified as Asghar Ali Kutchi and Rajab Ali Soomro. Asghar was the nephew of Lyari’s notorious gangster Omar Kutchi.

In another incident in Orangi Town, an activist of the Awami National Party (ANP) was shot and injured. Unconfirmed reports suggested Mehmood Shehzad, 35, was injured after unidentified armed men attacked the ANP office. However, Mominabad SHO Naveed Nasir said the man was injured by a stray bullet.
