Healthcare: Mothers to be trained in special week

Two IDP camps at Jalozar and Togh Sarai will be the focus of the project which aims to reach around 70,000 people.

PESHAWAR: The Central Excellence for Rural Development (CERD) under the patronage of National Programme for Family Planning and Primary Health Care on Friday announced ‘Mother and Child’ week aimed at creating awareness better healthcare for newborn infants. The cause will be promoted in the week from December 3 to December 8. Two IDP camps at Jalozar and Togh Sarai will be the focus of the project which aims to reach around 70,000 people. Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, Health and Nutrition Managaer CERD Dr Nausheen Khan said they aim to immunise every child of 2 years and all pregnant women will be vaccinated against tetanus toxoid. During the week, women will also be briefed about the importance of recognising danger signs in newborns, Antenatal Care Coverage, delivery by a skilled birth attendant and proper post natal care. Chief Executive of CERD Khan Muhammad, on the occasion said that the immunisation programme will be very helpful for the ill-fated children of mothers in IDP camps who have little knowledge of these things.
