Burden on consumers: LPG prices up Rs15 per kg

Price of a domestic cylinder has been raised by up to Rs170 and a commercial cylinder up to Rs680.

ISLAMABAD: The marketing companies have increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by up to Rs15 per kilogramme (kg) on Wednesday. LPG Distributors Association Chairman Muhammad Irfan Khokhar said that the price of a domestic cylinder had been raised by up to Rs170 and a commercial cylinder up to Rs680. As a result of the increase from Rs125 to Rs140 per kg, the domestic cylinder will be available at Rs1,630 in Karachi, he added. Likewise, the domestic cylinder will cost Rs1,690 in Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum and Faisalabad, with per kg price rise from Rs135 to Rs145, he said. He said that LPG will be available at Rs150-160 per kg in Multan, Bhawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Murree, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Peshawar with the price of domestic cylinder at Rs1,870. Khokhar termed the increase unjustified, appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan and the prime minister to take strict action against ‘gas mafia’ in the LPG sector in order to extend relief to consumers.
