KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has cut off power connections to 11 installations of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) due to unpaid electricity bills.

The KESC took the extreme measure on Tuesday after the local government institutions failed to clear their dues despite several warnings and the final notice issued a few days ago.

The installations - KMC and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) head offices in Civic Centre; slaughter houses in Landhi and North Karachi; KMC Sports Complex; bus terminals in Yousuf Goth and Baldia; KDA Pipe Factory; and the Gharibabad underpass - have not paid electricity arrears amounting up to Rs1.346 billion.
