For stronger economy: PML-N backs stronger ties with Norway, China

Norwegian envoy says her country can help overcome the energy crisis.

Ties with Norway can help Pakistan recover from its energy crisis, remarked Nawaz Sharif, the eponymous chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).


In a meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador to Pakistan, Cecil Landsverk, the PML-N chief said that cooperation between both the countries can be extended to sectors including education, health and social.

Supporting his views the Norwegian ambassador – who had called on Nawaz in Raiwind – said that Norway being the third largest exporter of gas and the fifth largest exporter of oil should increase their cooperation with Pakistan and assist them in oil, gas and hydropower projects to overcome their energy crisis.

Meanwhile meeting with delegates from China, a top PML-N leader maintained similar views about enhancing trade relations with other countries.

During a meeting with a seven-member delegation headed by Vice President of the Chinese Communist Party Li Junr U, PML-N’s Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said PML-N is of the opinion that cooperation with China would not only give Pakistan an economic boost but would also assist China emerge as a regional leader.

“The region will hold more that 50% share of the world economy by 2050 and Pakistan with the help of its ally should make the best of it,” he elaborated.

Congratulating the newly elected leadership of China, Jhagra stressed the need of frequent exchange of delegations from all sectors of life so that it helps bilateral cooperation.

“We believe in united China and continue to support China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” Jhagra said.

Iqbal Zafar Jhagra maintained that the recent decades have seen the use of many new global problems such as unilateralism, cultural hegemonies, terrorism and environmental degradation. “These problems contribute to polluting the international relationship systems which exist and the principle of protecting mutual interests among countries and regions. Some non-traditional security issues like terrorism, cross border criminal activities, drug trafficking, energy and environment can only be gradually solved through consultation on equal footing to reach consensus and adopt counter measures on the basis of international laws,” he added.

Vice president of the Chinese Communist Party who along with other delegates plan on meeting leadership of different political parties lauded PML-N’s role towards strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in Pakistan.
