Khyber Agency: Two peace militia elders killed in IED explosion

Member of Tauheedul Islam injured in checkpoint attack by Lashkar-e-Islam

BARA: Two peace militia chiefs were killed when an improvised explosive device went off in Tirah Valley, Khyber Agency on Friday.

An official of the paramilitary troops said that it was a remote-controlled bomb planted on a track in Takhtakai Kamarkhel area of the valley in Bara subdivision.

He added that militia elders Waris Khan and Yarman were on their way to offer Friday prayers when the bomb detonated and killed them on the spot. Militia elder Haji Rasheed Khan was killed in the same manner, he said. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far.

In another incident on Thursday morning, a volunteer of Tauheedul Islam peace militia was injured when Mangal Bagh-led Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) militants attacked a check post in Bazar Zakhakhel, Landikotal subdivision.

Political administration official Shahid Afridi said that LI militants attacked the check post, injuring a volunteer identified as Abdul Wahid of the Shalkhel tribe. LI captured the area but peace militia members retaliated and manage to regain control over the check post.
