Apolitical police officers solution for Karachi security: Imran
“Bringing in the army is not the way to deal with the situation. The solution is to have police officers who do not have any political backing,” said Imran while addressing a press conference in Karachi.
During his visit, Imran met with traders in Saddar and later spoke about the ongoing situation in the city at a PTI spokesperson’s house in DHA.
Taking a swipe at powerful political parties who nurture potent militant wings, Imran urged Karachiites to vote for political parties which do not have armed wings. “The masses should bring those parties to power who are free of militants and weapons.”
Condemning the recent terrorist attacks near imambargahs in Karachi, he said that the attackers were not followers of Islam and also criticised the authorities for their failure in preventing terror attacks.
“The government has accepted that it has failed to control the situation, but refuses to go away. They are discrediting themselves by still being in power.”
He said that there was an international conspiracy to make the Shia and Sunni communities fight amongst themselves. “Foreign elements are behind the conspiracy which started in Iran and has gone up to Lebanon, Bahrain and Syria.”
The PTI chief further said that law and order situation in interior Sindh was no better than the megalopolis. “The PPP has its major vote bank in Sindh but failed to give health and education to the people.”
He announced that next month, his ‘tsunami’ will move to Sukkur where they will hold a massive rally.

Military operation or Rangers is not solution to Karachi problem. As Imran Khan said govt has to de-politocize the police. But unfortunately govt is not willing to do so. They are more interested in saving the alliance than saving lives of poor Karachiites. :(
The best solution: Employ police staff from within the community or the same city. Karachi has police staff from Punjab province..almost all of it. Why?

Thee can never and should never be allowed that PTI or Imran Khan make any breakthroughs in Karachi politics they would destroy our unity against the exploiters.

Ehsanullah Ehsan is their spokesman and their Amir is Hakimullah Mehsud suggest you read Khalid Ahmed he has documented their entire structure, Khalid Ahmed writes in the ET and other publications. He is also IK's cousin. Also suggest you read Syed Saleem Shahzad (late) book Inside Alqaeda and The Taliban. SO if police chief is to be elected, how can they be apolitical? By definition anyone that fights an election is political.

Are you then saying that just like the army today does not report to the executive branch of the government, the police should also cease to report to the executive branch of government? Who exactly would the IG of the state report to if not to the interior minister of the state in the brave new world that Imran visualizes? If one talks about highly decentralized police - say at city level, then who would the city police chief report to if not the mayor of the city? How would this ensure police being apolitical?
Ofcourse the police should only be loyal to the pulic of Pakistan. That is an apple pie and motherhood statement. That is what expected even from the elected politicians, so in getting the police to report to elected politicians, we would logically be aligning them to the public, wold we not? The question is how do you implement such pious desires. What will PTI do that is different from today?

@Iftikhar Khan: There are number of trouble makers-in Punjab, Sindh, Balauchistan, KPK, Local & Foreign agencies. Taking credit for someone else deed may be the original plan by the perpetrator-two birds with one stone. The strongest suspicion is on TTP Punjab who have been known to be most receptive to the killing of Shias in the past. They are the ones associated with Hafiz Saeed group. The crime is being claimed by the Taliban in the tribal belt. The only way to identify the culprit is to actually catch someone in the act

We've been saying this weak, mild and ineffective condemnation for over a decade. I really don't think they care, feel hurt or see this comment carrying weight among the Pak population. Many of them probably think IK is not a follower of Islam, and certainly used the same rationalization to justify their massacres of Shia Muslims and other Pakistanis in public places. The condemnation should be more forceful and naming and shaming the culprits.
This is not just a criticism of IK, but many Pakistanis, myself included.
Reenforcing the death sentence for murderers, rapists, drug dealers and others will save space for our overcrowding prisons and prevent those people from committing their crimes again.

A Police Officer cannot remain apolitical, if the chief of the province (Chief Minister) is from a political party.
In any case a Police Officer has to obey the orders as desired by the Chief Minister.
The best solution is that while a Chief Minister is elected, he should not display his political party's flag to be apolitical, so that the Police Officers should also remain apolitical.

TTP have taken responsibility for the recent blasts in Quetta, Islamabad and Karachi on SHia worship places. Ae TTP foreigners? Shia and Sunnis are not killing each other in Pakistan. Anytime we see evidence of sectarian killings, it is always Sunnis killing Shias. You should also have the courage to name the 'foreign hands' who are funding the madrasssas and anti-Shia hate capaign. It is not India, US and Israel - it is KSA and UAE.It is upto Pakistanis to decide whom they should vote for in the next election. I however do not understand Imran's statement and hope that a PTI supporter like @Falcon or @elementary can help out.
Let us say tomorrow Imran is the PM what actions will he take to implement his solution i.e. apolitical police force. 1. How will he identify, who in the current police force is political vs. who is apolitical. Will any police who has voted in any election be deemed to have political sympathies and be deemed to ot be apolitical? Just what criteria would be used? 2. Let us assume that somehow all political police are identified. Now what will he do? This subject has been delegated to the provinces as per the 18th amendment has it not? 3. Let us say somehow he manages to sack all political policemen. How will he recruit the non-political police i.e. how will he determine whether any candidate who applies is political or not?
FInally a more fundamental questions: How will having an apolitical police force prevent Shias from being killed? None of the parties in Karachi (PPP, MQ, ANP) have sectarian leanings.

No Sir, You must remember the ending of impartial police officers involved in 1992 operation. Karachi needs a grand clean sweep operation again, through an authority which cannot be targeted later on.
Why IK does not name the parties and their leaders who are responsible for 2200 killings in Karachi since 1 January this wear.There clearly seems to be an underhand deal with them in his mild criticism of them.
Also by saying foreign hand is involved IK implying PPP-MQM are not responsible for this carnage.

IK is a hard working individual-he was in UK just the other day for fund raising. I hope he starts delegating as soon as possible otherwise he will have a burnout. He has now done his job and if we want a meaningful future then it is our responsibility to help him get elected. Only IK now has the capacity to deal with the crises facing Pakistan. While codemning the the Bomb Blast incident in Orangi, where is the word Taliban. This is not fair khan sa'ab. you should have much dare to speak the word TALIBAN catgoraically.
This is the ONLY solution for Karachi problem.A military operation at this point would only result in more unstable Karachi and Pakistan. MQM would obviously be eying on that victim mentality tactic as usual. ANP will also be a beneficiary of sympathy votes from pakhtooin community and Zardari will also be happy seeing people/citizens cursing Army doing operation and not him for a change. Hold elections, have fresh mandate and bring honest , dedicated and patriotic police officers and force so that they could do operation against everyone and anyone.
