GUJRANWALA: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) impounded 400 vehicles, including some rickshaws and vans, on Tuesday and confiscated their CNG cylinders. The vehicles were impounded as part of the RTA’s crackdown against CNG vehicles using uncertified cylinders, RTA Secretary Ahmed Nawaz Gondal said on Tuesday. The secretary and his team monitored vehicles on major roads of the district, including the GT Road. He said the drivers of these vehicles were told to get CNG cylinders installed from approved workshops. He said they were also told to obtain fitness certificates and route permits to be allowed to run the vehicles again. He said they were also checking vehicles running on LPG. Taking to The Express Tribune, the secretary said that the crackdown had been initiated in the wake of accidents, especially those related to CNG cylinders. He said some locally manufactured CNG cylinders were at a risk of exploding with even little pressure and were a constant threat to the people.  Transport Owners’ Association president Mian Muhammad Ilyas welcomed the RTA’s initiative.
