India ruled out an early visit by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Pakistan saying it can only happen when there is “specific delivery” from Islamabad on issues concerning India, reported Press Trust of India (PTI) on Wednesday.

According to sources quoted by the PTI report, Pakistan needs to deliver a “wish list” that India had given during former home minister P Chidambaram’s visit to Pakistan in 2010. The sources added that Pakistan was very keen on Singh’s visit but it cannot happen on a unilateral basis.

“Pakistan knows what we want. Home Minister Chidambaram, when he went there, gave a wish list. Our present understanding and assessment is we have not reached a level that there has been adequate delivery and we can go on. We sincerely hope that there will be a specific delivery. We hope that it will happen in the future and then we can think of it (visit by the PM),” the sources were further quoted as saying.

They added that India does not consider Ajmal Kasab’s hanging as a closure to the terror attack and wanted the perpetrators of Mumbai attacks to be brought to justice.

The sources also said that a visit by the prime minister is not a matter of sheer courtesy and cannot be done in haste.
