PESHAWAR: A rocket fired from an unknown direction hit a building of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) near the American Club in University Town, Peshawar and left one man wounded on Sunday evening.

The rocket landed at Karakul Lane on Chinar Road and exploded with a big bang, leaving one man injured who was rushed to the Khyber Teaching Hospital.

The entire locality was gripped by panic and fear when two explosions were heard. The first was a rocket attack in the open fields in Pawaka village and the other was the rocket which hit the NGO building.

“The rocket has landed in the lawn of the International Medical Corpse and its security guard Nek Muhammad has been injured,” said an official from University Town police station.

An official of the Bomb Disposal Squad told the Express Tribune that the target of the rockets was without any doubt the American Club building.

“You know these are free fall rockets and not guided weapons so they lack pin point accuracy. One of them landed a mile away from its target in Pawaka village while the other one missed its target by a good 150 meters and hit another nearby building,” he added.

Wonder where they fired this from? Could it be from the villages across the canal. I mean between the Ring road and the canal? It's a densely populated place so the militants either had to get very close to the target (which they did not ) or had to fire from a long distance (which they most probably did). Smuggling in rockets would be difficult. Still this means the Achini area and Doora areas are free spaces for these freaks who think an attack on an NGO would benefit them in any way.
