Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf urged stakeholders to work together for improving the literacy rate of the country and said that the government would extend full financial cooperation in this regard.
Addressing an event at the Sultana Foundation Islamabad, an organisation that works in the education sector, the prime minister announced that the government would increase the education budget to increase literacy rate in the country.
He said although under the 18th Amendment, education has been devolved to the provinces, the federal government would continue to play its role for promoting education. He said efforts are being made to improve the standard of education in federal schools.
Earlier, the premier laid a foundation of the Justice Yusuf Saraf Centre for Research, Rehabilitation and Mainstreaming Children and appreciated the support and cooperation of philanthropists for the noble project. He also announced Rs50 million for the foundation to complete the project. Paying his tribute to the welfare services of Sultana Foundation, he said those working for the welfare of humanity are an asset to the nation. Ashraf said that once Pakistan’s youth are equipped with education, they would be guided in the right direction and fully utilise their true potential.
“Youth are an asset and collective efforts will be made for their welfare. So we [must] impart best possible education and other facilities to them,” the premier said.
While addressing the gathering, Chairman Sultan Foundation, Dr Naeem Ghani, highlighted the aims and objectives of the project. He said that approximately 6,000 students are acquiring education from the institution.
Dr Aziz Alvi, the director of the project, explained the salient features of the new project where students will be given formal and informal teaching facilities.

Really and are you sure that you shall present the next fiscal/financial budget in 2013????
Short term's PM said, Education budget will be increased, When and how he will do, only few days of his Govt left What a joke
@Asif: sir, consider, as may be determined by law, so the Act 2012 determines it. Legally, there's no joking.
Dear PM, Please take it to 5 %. wrna IK will.
@Asif: Correctly and well said.
At least he's not spending Rs80 billion on a single road.
Enhancing the budget is all very well. Maybe it will feather a few more nests. Does anyone know the number of"ghost" schools in the country ? How may schools were destroyed in the earthquake and subsequent floods and are up and running?
Really?? Isn't education a provincial matter after the 18th amendment?
Kindly stop this joke!!
Passing the "The Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2012", when the article 25-A of the constitution already states that "The State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of five to sixteen years in such manner as may be determined by law"
Stop fooling the masses and do some real work!!
It is a good omen. No wonder some hate the elected/democratic govts. It is about time we put our money where our mouth is. Enough of the bombs and war games we need basics for poor masses.
