Muharram security: 100 CCTV cameras to be installed in Karachi

Muharram processions set to take place on 8, 9 and 10 will be monitored with these cameras.

KARACHI: In another attempt at curbing terrorism, 100 more CCTV cameras are going to be installed in more than 25 locations from Teen Hatti Chowk to Kharadar for monitoring Muharram processions, reveals a report from the Daily Express.

The processions set to take place on 8, 9 and 10 of Muharram will be monitored with the new cameras.

Sources said that the home department of Sindh issued these directives to police and funds worth Rs50 million were issued for purchase and installation of these cameras.

The installation is expected to begin within two days.

The areas where the cameras will be installed include Teen Hatti Chowk, Jahangir Road, Gurumandar, Numaish, Soldier Bazaar, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Imam Bargah Ali Raza, Taj Complex, Sea Breeze, Nasira School Saddar, Electronics Market, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, Tibet Centre, Mama Parsi School, Radio Pakistan, Jama Cloth Market, DOW Medical college, Denso Hall, Lighthouse, Madison Market, Bolton Market, interior areas of Kharadar, Imambargah Hussainia Irania and other sensitive areas.

Sources say camera increase will not only help in better monitoring of the processions but will help identify and avert any potential incidents of terrorism.

The cameras will be linked to and monitored from the central police office-based control room and KMC command and control room.

More than 150 cameras are installed in Karachi and running , a command and control center is monitoring with the law enforcement agencies and have caught many groups and different people affecting the city. These cameras were not specifically installed for Muharram but they have installed more Camera's to monitor the muharram procession.
