Hajj scam: FIA submits progress report to court

FIA is probing the appointment of Director General Hajj, who is also one of the accused in the scandal.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Authority’s (FIA) inquiry officer Hussain Asghar on Tuesday presented the progress report on the case. On investigations pertaining to the degree of Zain Sukhera, a close associate of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s son, Asghar said that the Punjab Governor as chancellor was acting as a detriment. A two-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry heard the case involving embezzlement of billions of rupees in funds allocated for the boarding, lodging and well being of the pilgrims. Asghar informed the court that FIA is probing the appointment of Director General (DG) Hajj Shakeel Rao, who is also one of the accused in the scandal.
