Malala grateful for global support
“She wants me to tell everyone how grateful she is and is amazed that men, women and children from across the world are interested in her well-being,” said her father Ziauddin Yousafzai, on behalf of the 15-year-old.
“We deeply feel the heart-touching good wishes of the people across the world of all caste, colour and creed,” he said in a statement issued by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where Malala is being treated.
Her father added: “I am awfully thankful to all the peace-loving well-wishers who strongly condemn the assassination attempt on Malala, who pray for her health and support the grand cause of peace, education, freedom of thought and freedom of expression.”
The hospital on Friday published photos of Malala sitting and reading a book, while others showed her poring over get-well cards.
Armed men in Mingora shot Malala in the head and shoulder on October 9 after stopping the school bus on which she was travelling.
The attack was claimed by the insurgent Taliban Movement of Pakistan (TTP), allied to al Qaeda.
They claimed to have targeted Malala because of her “pioneering role” in calling for girls’ education, and because of her general criticism of the Taliban.
The teenager was transferred on October 15 to the central England hospital, which specialises in the treating British soldiers wounded in Afghanistan.

The only question then will be if Pakistan will accept Malala as one of their own? Dr. Abdus Salam was never accepted even after nobel. I suppose there will be enough folks to say Malala is a western agent, so shouldn't be a role model. :(
Tens of thousands of people around the world have signed an online petition recommending Malala to be awarded with Nobel Peace Prize. This honour if given would be a big slap on Taliban, their apologists and conspiracy theorists in Pakistan, who post sickening remarks about the brave daughter of Pakistan.

I am docter working in Peshwar . We daily see miracles in our fields ,.I appeal the conspiracy theorists to have mercy on this poor girl , have a symapthy for her . @curios: yes she can have a complete recovery provided that the bullet hasnt lodged in the deeper brain tissue or has not affected the critical brain stem region otherwise u might have sustained some sort of disability only time will tell, the critical care given to her was the best in pakistan and in britain also it was round the clock so u cannot consider her any other ordinary trauma victim, also nervous breakdown is completely different thing. its a psychiatric illness and i remember all psychiatric diseases need long time to heal.

Stranger things are known to have happened in medical history. What is needed - Luck, strong will and the best medical care money can buy. And Malala is not a Lilly hearted individual. Her courage, willpower and zest to live are amply in evidence on various videos on you tube. And she was extremely lucky.
In most bullet injuries, if vital organs are missed (in malala's case her brain was spared), other tissues and bones are repairable easily by modern procedures. Modern medicine at times is nothing short of a miracle.

Drones have killed 3,000 people(most exaggerated figure),assume all were innocent then what about 50,000 innocents killed by those fanatics.One more thing,the people whose relatives are killed in mutual disputes,are they suposed to kill poeple liviing in the locality just for nothing in revenge,though they have nothing to do with their dispute???

This is the problem of the TTP / Alqaeda it comes from the school they represent they say a murtad ( apostate) it is mandatory to kill and a monafique (presumably not a knowledgeable) Muslim it is good practice to kill. And of course they have decided Malala is not a good Muslim . I hope this explains the sensitivities.

Now for the record I am also aware of some photos of Malala were photoshopped and released to journalists by people who I can best say are apologists for the savage prople who shot a 14 year old girl because she wanted to go to school and also took credit for it. I would be happy to share the evidence collected in debunking this, which needless to say is available on the net. But Alqaeda TTP and others who jointly took credit for this have also been fighting a two track devious media battle to create confusion. Please don't willingly or otherwise become a part of this. Problem with this sick ideology is you cannot create terror and deny it to.

But I do not understand why anybody would get jealous of someone like her getting all the media attention! We can't compare her with drone victims. Every Human Life is precious. Every human life must be given equal importance including the damage done by Secular parties like ANP and MQM in Karachi. Those issues should be covered as extensively as the Malala's incident. But I do not think that we need to decrease the importance given to her.
Another fact is that she was a symbol. In every war, we need a hero and a symbol. She is a symbol. We need to protect our heroes and symbols if we have to win this war between two different Islamic ideologies. We need Heroes. We need positive Image in the world. I think it is time to engage actively in this war even if we think that TTP is sponsored by CIA

Seeing some hard responses here makes me wonder that in that part of the world even asking a simple genuine question that you may have in your mind can get you labelled as some sort of terror sympthiser. For the first time I truely feel thankful to God that I am not in that polarised country anymore and will endevour to stay away for ever.

Thanks for your responses. My understanding of medical related things (as you can understand is very limited). I am one ordainary guy trying to make sense of it all - to me a shot to the head meant 'the end'!
No harm was intended or was not trying to offend or create confusions. I am confused with all this already and thought Id ask here, But the way I was attacked made me feel like I was against women or their education etc. Not the case at all. Extremism is not only through guns and bombs. Attacking someone else verbally for their questions and beliefs is also the form in my view..

yes you can get shot in the head and neither die not become paralysed. Same way you can get shot in the chest and abdomen and not die. It all depends what structures are hit by the bullet and the injuries to blood vessels. Sarfaraz shah ( the guy the rangers shot in a park in karachi) died because even though the bullet was in the leg it hit a main artery supplying the leg and he bled out.

I'm not a doctor but from what I've read the bullet didn't enter the brain, but grazed it. Infact she was in a serious condition for many many days, and then transferred to Birmingham for specialist treatment.
A few years ago in England there was a person who suffered a knife attack to the head, which did enter the brain, that person made a relatively quick recovery after an operation.
So I think it comes down to the quick response and quality of medical treatment, how quickly someone recovers from such an attack.
So lets not jump to conclusions so quickly

@Curious Brother, 1- the bullet entered the the skull (Behind left eye) at 90 angle (And this is the main point most dont know). 2- touched her brain and 3- went downward into the jaw and then 4- slipped further below in the lower neck/sholuder area under the influence of gravity.
Had it been a straight shot to the skull, she would not have survived the incident, God forbid!
Just google Malala`s bullet trajectory and u will find various videos illustrating the exact course of the bullet.
And it is ok to be cynical but it is a crime to be a lazy buffoon and inquire things which have already been explained over and over again.
Can anyone please share the numbers of shaheeds in drone stricks ? why not celebrating those days. even tell the name of atleast 10 ppl
@Curious There is no doubt that she suffered some head and neck injury which will leave some kind of bad effects. From this picture, I can see some effects on her left face and her face is swollen . From a picture you can not tell a lot, For a better clinical picture, one needs just more than a picture. She is recovering and that is why she is in the hospital. I can not think of any doctor who would want to keep a patient in Hospital just for the sake of political purposes.
@Everyone Please stop all theconspiracy theories. Why is it so hard for us to accept the reality. Bottom line is 1- She got shot 2- No child deserves this 3- TTP claimed responsibility and they have no remorse for it 4- And Media is biased but it is not Malala's fault. Give her some respect!! This is just a drama staged by US in collaboration with local agencies. The Taliban are offshoot of CIA and they are given directions by CIA regarding attacks. Even some white people are in them in disguise.
@curios: You are not a medical person ( i am !) and you probably have not seen many traumatic head injuuries ( i have) and probably you have no experience of post trauma rehab ( i have)- & lastly u probably don't understand " Jisse allah Rakhe usse Kaun chakhe". Her recovery is because Allah wanted her to live BUT don't try to twist the fact that she did not have a serious trauma

Your question was genuine, especially in our case, where we have seen uncountable deaths and causalities due to negligence and inefficiency of our institutions and systems. and @Qasirani dear!!!! if Taliban are using guns to attack who opposes them, then you are using your tongue. I dont believe certain people can even question what happened to Malala. She is a symbol. I would be proud to have a daughter like Malala. All the mullahs and Taliban want to do is take us back to the dark ages. If I had my way I would string every one of them up. Having seen and heard Malalas dad on the news I am not surprised he has a daughter like Malala. Funny thing is that the Taliban want to go back to the past but they do not like foregoing modern facilities like mobiles, internet, tv etc etc. The reason why Malala has made such a speedy recovery is as mentioned before the bullet missed the brain an also she is in the best medical facilities available for that type of injury.

@curios: if you see the skull of an human you will understand the things properly. in fact she had bullet in her skull which pass through her jaw and stop near neck and shoulderwithout even touch her brain part further she received in time best treatmemnt available that is why fortunately she may be survied without any serious trouma handicape.

Not trying to be cynic but I can't get it in my mind that someone shot in the head can be OK in a months time to be able to read and speak. Is it possible? After looking at these picturesfor the first time I am having this feeling that maulvi diesel might not be all wrong.. My cousin had a nervous break down once and it took him more than 2 months to be able to speak etc.. If any doctors around here can shed some light, I will be grateful. Thank you in advance.
