According to Express News correspondent Shakir Sultan, Sunita, who wanted to change her name to Sobia after embracing Islam, was present at Tahir Plaza adjacent to city courts where she went to talk to her lawyer.
However, she saw her family there and fearing a harsh reaction, she jumped off the second floor of the building. Sunita said she did not want to commit suicide, but was only scared of a backlash from her family.
She hurt her leg and lower body as a result.
Sunita, who works as a receptionist at a clinic had fallen in love with a man named Ghulam Rasool who used to come there. Both of them decided to get married and had arrived at the city courts for court marriage.
The Christian girl further said that no one was forcing her to convert her religion and that she was always “inclined towards Islam.”
Her case was presented before a magistrate where she appealed the authorities to provide her security.

What will be your answer if the Girl in MUSLIM ..?
This world is so messed up, religion decides everything now for people. People are willing to give their life for the most petty things as if there really is no value for it anymore.
@Sajid Iqbal: You are ready to fall in 'love' with a girl from different religion and then suddenly become righteous when question of marriage comes up and ask the girl to get converted. What is stopping you to accept the girl as she is .
And finally what will be your reaction if your sister decides to marry a non-Muslim? Either you will force her inside home or will cut ties with her. You want to differ on that?
Honor suicide?!
@Sajid Iqbal: Much much better than Mullah mentality of forcible conversion
@Nitish: This is what we call "Bania" mentality.
@Zalim singh:
yeah ...your logic is the best...She is Christian and her father too...So her father wants her to marry a muslim??????? excuse me makes no sense
Why one should convert for marriage? This is clear case of crime.Girl deserves no sympathy and no cultured society will endorse such act.I have my all sympathy with the girls parents.Unfortunately in india as well many girl convert herself for the purpose of marriage. These girls r selfish and even if they r killed for honour ..so be it.
@lovePak: Create a society were there are equal economic and social opportunities for all its citizens irrespective of his religious belief. You will immediately see such conversions becoming rare and rare. Definitely there will be some for certain reasons, but then there will be some Muslims getting converted for the same reasons. You have created a system where minorities are marginalized based on their belief, what other option do they have other than dreaming about joining the majority to escape all the sufferings if already not forcefully converted.
it may be a stupid question but still I would like to post it here, why it is not yet as highlighted as Malala case has been over highlighted by Pak media?????
Is conversion necessary for marriage? Can't two people from different religions marry in Pakistan (in India there is a Special Marriage Act for this purpose) or I am asking the wrong question in the "Islamic Republic of Pakistan"?
Anyone seen Asma Jahangir, Marvi Sermad, Farzana Raja, Samar MinAllah???????
So Christians also have the concept of death penalty for apostasy, or were parents after her daughter for the equally shameful concept of family honor
Kichdhi news! Her lawer ? and her family was there ? :D
@lovePak: Agreed, this is the real mess what we see today.....
The point is she cannot marry any one she may love without converting!!
Looks fishy. It must be a forced conversion. If she jumps off just by seeing her family- why would she attempt to marry at all? I think she was resisting the conversion. When her parents arived, she was pushed from the balcony by her tormentors.
@Aryabhat..... first read the article & then comment..... she was in LOVE & Getting married on her own will.......
@Aryabhat: even if she was pushed, who pushed her, her ex-family members off course! Now can you please clearify your intentions, to who you are trying to accuse for her suicide attempt?? Some Muslims off course!!
Very good question!
The Christian girl further said that no one was forcing her to convert her religion and that she was always “inclined towards Islam.”
Words that Indians will deny. The problem with the media is that unless they actually say they're not being forced, everyone quickly assumes it's forced and starts bashing Pakistan for often non-existent problems.
ET, why does bad news always have to take the spotlight, what about the several heart-warming stories that happen alongside these. The media has a responsibility to bring the morale of the country high. The only way to do so is by showing positive stories that rekindle hope. That's what every country does usually with propaganda, but in ours, it's anti-Pakistan propaganda. Why not fulfill your part of the story?
why it is not the main headline and why no liberal has commented yet? just because she wanted embrace islam and christians wanted her to be killed
Not being forced? It would be a fair assumption that the man or his family would not accept her unless she did not convert. Our 'men' wouldn't think about all this while 'falling in love' but suddenly remember religion and family after a few days in. It's an unhealthy society!
What is the evidence that she was not pushed from top as she declined the forced marriage?
You can call me biased or cynical but I am surprised that so many people around her and no one tried to stop her?
