Tanker snatchers: 6 robbers caught; oil, cash recovered

MANDI BAHAUDDIN: Six people, who police say had snatched an oil tanker, were arrested on Monday night by Chowki Mangat police. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Ilm Din Gujjar told reporters that an oil tanker, owned by one Mohammad Afzal, had been stopped on the Mano Chak Marala Road by armed men in two cars. The robbers had tied up the driver and his helper – identified as Mohammad Nazir and Mohammad Akram – and left them at the roadside. The robbers had then emptied the crew’s pockets and driven away the oil tanker. The driver and the helper were able to free themselves and alerted a mobile police team of the robbery. The team went in pursuit of the robbers caught them. Gujjar said the mobile phones and Rs9,000 that had been stolen from the tanker crew had also been recovered. According to the owner of the tanker, it was carrying fuel worth Rs10 million.
