Four people, including a policeman, were killed in a shootout between two groups over a financial dispute.
The exchange of fire took place in the Shamshato Camp in the jurisdiction of Urmar police station, near the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.
Officials from the Urmar police station said that one of their special force constables, Asmatullah, was critically injured when he tried to dissuade the two groups firing near a police check post. Asmatullah later died at the hospital.
One of the groups was led by Hana, a resident of Waziristan, according to the police. They said his men opened fire after a verbal confrontation with their rivals.
The other group was led by Muhibullah, who was killed in the ensuing clash along with his associate Sardar Ali and an unidentified passerby.
“Muhibullah and his men are also from a clan in Waziristan,” said DSP Fazal-e-Wahid, adding “their killers managed to escape.” A search operation was launched after the incident, but the culprits were not found.
