UK doctors remove bullet from Pakistani Ahmadi shot in the eye: Report
Leading ear, nose and throat consultant Shahzada Ahmed removed the bullet from Ummad Farooq on Sunday using a Cyclops – a new instrument that enables surgeon to see better and carry out operations quicker. The one-hour long operation saved Farooq’s eyesight.
Thanking the doctor who performed the surgery, Farooq said that doctors in Pakistan had said that the surgery was too risky so he came to the UK for treatment. “When I came here the bullet was still lodged just under my right eye causing double vision. But after surgery on Sunday I am seeing things much clearer now,” he told Daily Mail.
Farooq was studying finance at Sunderland University and flew back to Karachi for his brother Saad’s wedding. An ambush on family members at the wedding on October 19 left Saad dead while their father was hit by six bullets but survived.
Explaining the reason behind the ambush, Farooq said that his father was the president of the Ahmadi community in Karachi.
“My father still has five bullets lodged inside him, but is not in a critical condition. We were all moved to a safe house, and my community decided to fund my treatment in the UK,” he added.
Consultant Ahmed said that he had never used the Cyclops in this way and it was unique to remove a bullet through the nose. However, leaving the bullet inside indicated a possibility of Ummad going blind or the area becoming infected, he added.

People in pakistan are not intolerant in their nature. They are driven into this situation by corrupt politicians. In order to save their skins these politicians look for easy scapegoats and trigger hate on the basis of differences in the society. Such conduct creat frustration and make people to believe that so and so is the root of all evils. This is the time that people in pakistan should wake up and stand up against the real player.
He has applied for asylum in the UK, hopefully it will be granted, and he can live somewhere where his life is not always at risk. Get well.

If only we have corruption free professionals the innocent citizens will sleep better. The carelessness of leaders from the citizen's tragedies only bring to these leaders or their friends & family members closer to tragedy in their own life. The duties they sleep-on will one day come back to haunt them. We have seen that over and over in past. The crime you stop will sameday save your own life.

Get well soon brother, and sorry for the loss of your brother in that barbaric attack on your family simply due to your beliefs. As a fellow ahmadi I can feel the trauma you are going through. Appalling! I am from the majority of our country and oppose any kind of violence on any minority. Regardless of what any religious scholar thinks or says, the Ahmadi community are a part of our peoples, they should be allowed to practice their belief without fear and persecution... I am sorry and ashamed to hear about this tragedy and stand with our brother Ummad Farooq and the rest of the Ahmadi brothers and sisters in Pakistan. He goes home to attend wedding of his brother and gets shot and loses his brother simply because of his Faith. What a terrible thing to happen and how horrible a society we have become.
@Peaceful onlooker: I am completely agreeing with you but would like to reply on, is this Islam. I don't believe these people are either Muslims or Pakistanis. They are worst of their kind and too me their is no worse human on this living planet than these people. I hope that we Pakistanis can get rid of these evil people as quickly as possible. Their only job is to take money and kill and they don't care who they kill. What their masters are clearly doing is to cause trouble in Pakistan and rift between its people.

get the facts corrected ...he was not ambushed during wedding....but in reality he alongwith his family were coming back from Jumaa prayers...and apparently their only sin was offering prayers and being member of ahmadi community.....now in this country one can not even offer prayers.....peacefully moreover the cousin whos marriage was attended by this man's family was actually shot dead in this ambush....their crime....being ahmadi.....karachi has seen 8 ahmadis killed in one month..!!! first it was pathans, then shia community now ahmadis are getting killed.....is this islam......???
