Targeted attack: ANP leader shot dead in Charsadda

SHABQADAR:

The senior vice president of Awami National Party’s (ANP), Charsadda chapter, Sabihullah Khan was shot dead on Monday in the latest wave of attacks against political figures and peace militia leaders.

Three assailants opened fire on a car carrying Sabihullah and his relative Zahid in the Sarekh area of Shabqadar while they were returning home from a party meeting, SHO Saeed of Battagram police station told The Express Tribune.

Sabiullah died on the spot, while Zahid succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Police and locals believe the murders could be a result of personal enmity.

Sabihullah was a prominent political leader of Charsadda. He also contested elections for tehsil naib nazim in 2002, but did not win.

He was a member of ANP’s provincial executive council and a close aide to adviser to K-P chief minister Syed Masoom Shah.

ANP’s district general secretary Qasim Muhammad Zai condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of Sabiullah’s killers. Police have registered an FIR against the three gunmen, but did not divulge their names.
