PESHAWAR: A medium intensity remote-controlled bomb blast left eight people, including seven policemen, injured in the Daudzai police station of the far flung Jala Bela village on the outskirts of Peshawar Sunday evening.

The target of the bomb attack was the police check post in the area.

According to the police, the bomb attached to the bicycle, had been parked near the check post and the blast not only damaged the check post building but the adjacent mosque and a shop as well.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) official Abdul Haq said, “It was a remote-controlled device containing at least three kilograms of explosives and its target was the Sajid Iqbal Shaheed check post of the Daudzai police,” adding that there was some similarity between the Saturday shrine attack and the check post attack as both bombs were home-made and concealed in a ghee tin.

The injured, including the policemen, were shifted to a hospital in Charsadda, where their condition is stated to be stable at the time of the filing of this report.

“Four of the injured policemen, Saeed, Ali Mast, Fakhar-e-Alam and Shah Jehan, are constables of the community police while the other three, Asif, Hazrat Muhammad and Sharif, are regular police personnel,” said local SHO Amir Sultan.

He said that a passerby 12-year-old child was also among the injured.

Police have initiated a large scale search operation in the area after the blast and arrested several suspects.
