Media houses in Peshawar relocate following Taliban threat: Report

Jang Group offices among those relocating.

PESHAWAR: After threats issued last month by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) to media organisations, several including Jang and The News have moved their offices out of Badshah Towers in Peshawar, reports JournalismPakistan.

The News, Jang and Nai Baat have shifted to Deans Trade Centre which is considered secure, while Geo TV is currently in the process of moving out of the building.

Intermedia, Internews and Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) have also moved out of the area due to security threats.

Earlier, the Taliban had announced that they would target those media houses which were criticizing them for shooting Malala Yousufzai, a 14-year-old child activist.

TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud had compiled a list of targets and directed the group’s fighters to launch attacks against national and international media outlets in the country, an intelligence report had revealed.
