YDA condemns shifting of KEMU girls to boys hostel

Association says 60 male doctors being evicted from Broom Hostel.

The Young Doctors Association Pakistan has condemned the King Edward Medical University vice chancellor for shifting female students to a boys hostel.


In a statement on Saturday, YDA office-bearers said the Broom Hostel on McLeod Road was being allocated for girls and 60 male doctors living there were being forced to vacate it. They regretted that instead of repairing the old block of the girls hostel, the administration was demolishing it.

All academic council members had opposed the proposal but the VC was not willing to reconsider it, they said. They said the girl students should be accommodated at the Shahbaz Research Centre which was lying empty. They said the boys hostels were already short of accomodation and if girls were settled in one of the six blocks reserved for boys, there would be no space for the first-year students. They said mobile phones had been snatched from doctors walking from the hostel to Mayo hospital.
