The Quetta Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had awarded life-imprisonment to Balochistan Assembly MPA and former federal minister Rind, his son Sardar Khan Rind and four other people for allegedly kidnapping a man and failing to appear before the court, on June 28, 2011.
Rind had earlier tried challenging the case in the Balochistan High Court (BHC), however, when he came to the Supreme Court today to file a plea against the ATC’s verdict, he was arrested. His plea was also rejected.
The former minister’s counsel Akram Shaikh maintained that the case against his client was wrong.
Rind is reported to have been moved to the Secretariat Police Station in Islamabad.
A case was registered at Shoran police station in 2009 against Yar Mohammad Rind, who is also chief of the Rind tribe, his son former district Nazim Sardar Khan Rind and his other accomplices Sabzal Khan, Mohammad Yusuf, Allah Dina, Wali Mohammad and Din Mohammad.
In the FIR they were accused of kidnapping a person Imamudin in 2009 from Sanni area.
The Challan of the case was submitted to ATC Quetta-II upon which the court issued notices to Yar Mohammad Rind and other accused, to appear before the court. However, despite the frequent notices none of the accused turned up during the hearings.
The judge of ATC Quetta-II Aminuddin Bazai had convicted the six accused on charges of kidnapping a man, awarding life imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000, each, for ignoring court notices and deliberately not ensuring their presence in court during the hearings.
The verdict had further said that in failing to deposit the fine, the accused will face a year imprisonment. One of the accused namely Din Mohammad was declared innocent by the court as no charges were proved against him.

@Balo: My friend, please note that the number of casualties in any insurgency infested area has nothing to do with the population density. No of casualties are always dependent on the nature and intensity of insurgency.
@ sk afridi Afridi sahb just a quick reality check .. if ur making comparisons between sindh and balochistan regarding the numbers of killings then kindly do keep in mind the POPULATION of both the provinces and then post ur naive statistics
@Kamran:
Frustration followed anger.
Guys, Plz spare this guy pragmatist. From his comment, you can see he has less understanding of baloch matters. Let me guess what he did, he saw "Balochistan" in title, opened "Balochistan propaganda.text" and pasted the text, thats what he has been doing for years now :)
@Pragmatist: im sorry but this article is not about that. This is about a criminal case and a dispute between two politicians/ tribal leaders who are incidentally both Baloch. Lets not mix up issues now shall we.
@P sharma
Just like u he doesnt have a clue what hes talking about!! Now that uve 'off loaded' too .. Feel any better? :D
If not join his club! But please get off our issues.. We will deal it our ways!! Get it? OUR WAY!
@ Pragmatist Please restrict yourself to your own country INDIA and try to solve your own problems. We are capable of solving our problems. Long Live PAKISTAN and Long Live BALOCHISTAN.
@Kamran: " like most of Indians he came here to offload his verbal diarrhea!! " - sounds you are unable to counter the logic/arguments put by them.
@C. Nandkishore: " Can a person be arrested within the court premises without the approval of the CJP?"
Why approval/ permission of CJ or any other judge be required. to arrest a person in the premises of court.? Had been so every criminal can take shelter in the court's premises. !!! Enforcement of law is the duty of police and not that of court..
@S K Afridi
Never mind 'Pragmatist' - like most of Indians he came here to offload his verbal diarrhea!! Hopefully he should be feeling much better now that its all out!! :)
@Pragmatist: You just don't know what you are writing. Its a tribal war between Rinds and Raisaini tribe. Aslam raisaini is Chief Minister and chief of Raisaini Tribe and Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind is head of rival tribe. One is leader of the House and other is leader of Opposition. It is a tribal Democracy and how tribal democracy works in this part of the world. The timings of Sardar Rind are perfect as Raisaini government is on its way out not only for incompetaence as said by the Supreme Court but its tenure is also over.. So Sardar Rind is Political Victim for coming elections and raisaini will not be able to see his case concluding in his tenure.
Can a person be arrested within the court premises without the approval of the CJP?
@Pragmatist: There is no genocide going on in Baluchistan. Daily the no of people who are killed in Karachi is more than the no of people killed in the entire province of Baluchistan. More over the total number of Hazaras, Pashtunes, FC personnel and the settlers killed in Baluchistan is more than the number of Baloach killed in the insurgency. To the best of my knowledge no military operation is going on in Baluchistan. US, Afghanistan and India are actively involved in Baluchistan insurgency and their aim is to destabilize this province and use it against Iran. The simple proof in support of my argument is the extra ordinary interest taken by US and their attempt to high light one sided picture of the state of affairs in Baluchistan. Another point to note is that today almost 14 such separatist movements are in progress in India. Out of these 14, the freedom struggle in Kashmir and Assam has faced large scale human rights violations but the US can only see some imaginary violations in Baluchistan. Evil intentions of US about Pakistan/Baluchistan are quite obvious and we should all strongly condemn the US interference in our internal affairs.
How about his opponent kidnapping for ransom and stealing cars. The doctors abducted recently is also seen as the work of the same man who cannot be arrested because he holds the power.
This guy has played a major role in perfecting the governance in Balochistan
Just kidding
The Balochistan issue is no longer isolated to Pakistan. The UN has to step in and stop the genocide of the local population. For now all that the US and UN are doing is making sympathetic noises. They have to do more, and soon.
I believe there is no more opposition in the assembly, because Mr. Rind was the only one in opposition.
One down many more to go.
Poor Akram Shaikh! It seems all his clients get involved in "wrong cases". May be Shaikh Sahaab needs to find right reasons to defend wrong cases, I'd think.
