An official of the education department said the allocation has been for districts of Torghar and Kohistan, to ensure increased enrollment of girls in schools and to lower the drop-out ratio.
The grant aims at lifting female literacy rate.
He said that 1250 merit scholarships of Rs1500 each would be provided from class one to five for the next five years. Another 1250 scholarships of Rs2000 each have been chalked out for class 6 to 10 for the next five years.
A recent UN report noted that Pakistan had the second worst global rate of children out of school with as many as 5.1 million children out of classrooms. Of these, 3 million were females.
