QUETTA:

Balochistan Minister for Local Government Abdul Khaliq Bashar Dost died of a cardiac arrest on Monday. A previous accident had left the minister disabled and he was confined to a wheelchair.

Dost was elected in the 2008 elections as a member of the Balochistan Assembly, from a seat in a Zhob constituency, on a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Nazriyati ticket. The minister was initially a member of the original JUI, but later on joined the breakaway faction, defeating Maulana Muhammad Khan Sheerani, for a seat in the provincial assembly.

Being the only member of his party in the assembly, he joined hands with Awami National Party’s three-member group and became the local government minister.
