Emergency services: Disaster management cell in the works

KARACHI:


A single unit to coordinate a network of administrative, social and welfare organisations is being designed to tackle emergencies, said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed on a visit to a factory that caught fire over Eid.


These organisations would include the KMC, Karachi Port Trust, the towns, KESC, Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Railways, Military Land Management, Edhi and Chhippa.

While inspecting the gutted factory building, he said thousands of factories and mills are located in Karachi’s six industrial zones. The city is controlled by more than 13 different organisations which creates trouble in emergencies.
