Hussain and his delegation were detained and investigated by Indian authorities and were released after two hours of custody upon the intervention of the Pakistani Consulate.
According to Express News correspondent Naeem Qaiser, Hussain and his group were taken into custody just as he came out of the shrine after Eid prayers. They could not provide their passports and copies to the Indian authorities, as they did not have them in their possession at that time.
Hussain had to return to their hotel in Jaipur and onward to Delhi to attend the wedding of a political friend’s son.
The PML-Q leader is in India on a four-day tour, accompanied by a contingent including his son Shakir Hussain.

@Pro Truth: I do not want to visit India but you have to follow the law of the land . Being rich or famous or big politician does not exempt you from the law of the land. Always remember " Do not give chance to other person to step on your foot " In this casefault lies with Mr Shujaat & Co .first why did he go to India especially to this Mazar.Pakistan is RICH in mazars itself. We have mazars in every corner of any given city. He can come to my Mazar when I die. Obviously I will be not that famous. Did GOD say you communicate with me thru mazars? Coming back to the main issue, what is the learning lesson? When you are in Rome, do as Romans do. If you go to foreign land follow their rules and do not go to local Mazars and communicate with GOD directly. He will listen to you and you will save your self from lot of stress. Good bless you.
In Saudi Arabia Muslim foreigners found not carrying their travel documents on their person during Umra and Haj in Mecca and Medina are arrested and deprted
@m.b.f.h.: You are right. Half my comments are not published by the Indian media and once someone disabled my fb account.
Indians love to read about our stories and comment on them as compare to local readers, which are barely a third of foreign readers. If it weren't for internet all these readers would have been deprived of experiencing the true Free Speech. Their papers are so much censored, edited, nice-news-only kind and heavily moderated they have to sneak over the Wall to get a taste of fresh air from Pak. Bravo Tribune!
@ali: It saddens me when you say "my foot it is only the partial and biased mentality of indian authorties to disgrace pakistanies visting india.......shujhat was a prominent figure......" It is not so. Pakistan is a very small country, almost like a province of India and there VIPs may be known to all. In India it is not practical to be recognized that easily. Some how from childhood you all are fed with so much of false hood that India looks like a demon to you. You please visit India and see for yourself.
Most of comments from indian side are trying to establish that india is the only champ where law is obeyed and there is peace and calm , my foot it is only the partial and biased mentality of indian authorties to disgrace pakistanies visting india shujhat was a prominent figure otherwise he would have to suffer imprisonment for whole of his life as a pakistani scientist from krachi been kept in jail for more than a dacade, while he was in india satisfing all the basic legal requirment. pakistani singar rahat fathe is another example
One never knows that this drama happened because a call from a Pakistani official to his Indian counter-part to settle a political vendetta.
@zabdesk... mr.advani was not on his personal visit .. he was on official visit on the invitation of pakistan...had diplomatic immunity. so as per vienna convention you can't hold him.
as far as mr khan is concerned .. he was carrying all his documents at the time he was detained.. clear case of harassment because he is a muslim...not acceptable..
Kindly do the thorough research before saying something... talk is not that cheap.
@all law abiding Indians Would that our police had arrested LK Advani under the name of law in 2005, being a accused in an FIR No. 4/47 registered in local police station of Karachi due to involvement of Mr. Advani in killing conspiracy of the then Governor General. Later on he was declared absconder; then we see the reaction of these law abiding people. However, as I said earlier, we cannot act like that as we respect guests specially the elders one. Any way we have seen the hoax created when Shahrukh Khan was questioned at US airport, at that none has asked what the law says and whether US authorities violated any law. Just he & cry at that time. I salute all these people.
@zadesk: Which world you are living in ? First rule of thumb is to follow the law of the land.For example In UK motor vehicles are driven on the left side and in USA they are driven on the right side. Now you go to USA and start driving on the left side. You know what will happen to you. You will be crushed to death before police could catch you. Even in Saudi Arabia when you go for hajj or umra they want you to keep your passport with you when you are out of hotel. So what is lesson out of this news? Please follow the law of the land. If you can not or do not want to do it then stay at home. I do not know what was the reason to go to India. We have so many MAZARS in Pakistan.
That the law of all lands must be obeyed is universally applied and cannot be disputed.Why there is so much of heartburn on this issue is because of the Indo-Pak relations and our history and it will take time for people to treat each other as we treat other neighbours.Why our people feel let down is and believe me that i am stating it with sincerity and no malice is because we treat the Indian Yatrees and visitors with a lot of respect and compassion and you cannot quote even one instance of any Indian celebrity having been ever embarrassed whether He was carrying his documents on person at all times or not.I know it for a fact that many of them never carry them on their person and have never feared it because they know they have come legally.The Chaudhrys and all Pakistanis must learn the lesson but a bit of compassion and understanding by the Indian Police in such cases of members of parliament and celebrities would help better our relations and dispel misperceptions.But this change cannot come overnight and possibly never with an overbearing or misplaced sense of superiority.
Well thumbs up to indian inteligence agencies, they were honestly very very "sada log" humble and kind and dont even know who is visiting there, they have appointed and selected most humble people who dont know whats happening around and also in this world, they just do 9-5 work and relax with their families how they can recognise chaudry sahib and his delegation they R just very very simple and kind they all live in villages where there is no electricity, roads just cant tell you how simple peoples are been given jobs in Indian Police, Army and RAW!!
Also peolple who are working day and night for AMAN KI AASHA should not get bothered by these small incidence just do more!!
The title of the news clip is misleading . Mr. Choudhary was not on official visit hence there can not be any delegation as mentioned in the news title . It was a group ( not a delegation) visiting to Ajmer Shrine and later attend a wedding in Delhi
@afzaalkhan: You are missing the point that Mr. Choudhary was not on official visit and Ajmer police is not expected to recognize foreign politician/ ministers. For security reasons Police do check randomly and the unfortunate incident happened unintentionally. We respect all and expect others to respect our laws.
@gp65: i agree with you. Life is a learning process. Follow the laws of the land when you visit any country. Do not give chance to other person to step on your foot. This is true for any place. If this is too much for you then stay HOME.
what these people go for in india there is nothing there favourable for a Pakistani so i recommend allPakistanies never think to visit that country
@zadesk: Dear Sir, Did you not read that they were not even carrying their passports. Do you think your criticism is justified and a voice should be raised in this regard?
@Anonymous Indian: even in India laws are a joke.
Why did he go to Mazar in India when there are so many for him in Pakistan. Around the time of Hajj, he did not need to go to any Mazar in India the best would have been Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
@DeshVidesh: "Please correct me if I’m doing something wrong : Is it a rule that all foreigners have to carry their passports with them at all times in India? I am no longer an Indian citizen and once the immigration clears me at IGI Airport in Delhi, I keep my passport at my parents house in Delhi, just in case I lose it while traveling around."
Rules for Pakistanis when they visit India are different from all other foreigners. It is the same for Indians visting Pakistan. For example for most foreigners visting India once they enter India they can travel anywhere within India but Pakistanis would have only 3 cities marked on passport and they are not supposed to go anywhere else. So if a Pakistani is in a city other than that which was marked on their visa, how can a law enforcement agent determine that if they are not carrying their passport with them?
Unsure why this is being made into an India-Pakistan issue when it is a simple law enforcement issue. Until a few years back, India too had a feudal culture like Pakistan where the high and mighty blatantly disobeyed the law and got away with it. This is changing with active role by civil society and media. Even Sonia's son-in-law is not beyond questioning and several of our former ministers are in jail. A beginning in that direction appears to have been made in the Bakery case involving SS' son-in-law. You all need to build on that momentum.
tell me frankly... do you trust your politicians... then why do you expect us to trust them ???
India is not Pakistan where laws are literally a joke. If you are in a foreign land, you should respect the law of the land. Is it so hard to understand?
@Much Amused:
Yes absolutely, especially when you are a foreigner and that too in a country where you do not share a good relationship..
Please correct me if I'm doing something wrong : Is it a rule that all foreigners have to carry their passports with them at all times in India? I am no longer an Indian citizen and once the immigration clears me at IGI Airport in Delhi, I keep my passport at my parents house in Delhi, just in case I lose it while traveling around. I have never been told that I must have it on my person at all times. I think there must be some political message behind this MP being asked for papers. After all, he must have produced his Passport while clearing immigrations at his port of arrival or else how could he have entered the country?
They are roaming in a foreign country without passports . I don't understand why Indian authorities were so generous towards these irresponsible people ? If a person breaches traffic laws or without ticket in train , gets arrested for minimum of 1 days . Then why did these people get release after 2 hours ? Rajstan police putting whole country in danger by doing such nonsense act .
Mr Chaudhary is not Obama nor he is as famous as OBL... so as anybody will recognize him .. Passports are mandatory in India ... especially its a common sense to carry one when you are in foreign country... If he is the leader of Pakistan ...May god bless pakistan and pakistani people..
Pakistani officials must not forget it and always remember that India is not Pakistan or like Pakistan where the foreigners may/shall travel/visit without complete legal traveling/visiting documents as has been seen and done in Pakistan by the US' diplomats....
It is good to always carry the passport when visiting other country. the law enforcemnt agencies of the host country do have the right to ask for identification. there is no harm in it.
Shocking, absolutely shocking. A man of his age and experience moving around in enemy territory without identification papers. This is a bounty for the Indians, who like their US masters are photocopies of all the US does. Anyway, please do us a favor and keep him for ever. The people of Pakistan will be thankful to the Indians for a long, long time in coming.
Can I, an Indian travel around in Pakistan without a passport with me?
@Mohinder sandhu: Religion is soul, my dear. If you do not have one, do not blame me.
@afzaalkhan: We in India do have a VIP culture but obviously not to the extent it appears to be the case in Pakistan . Barring the President , Vice President and the Prime Minister all other ministers and Members of Parliament are routinely frisked and searched at all airports and other sensitive locations . Reducing this sense of VIP entitlement of differential treatment has improved the security climate . Members of Parliament are welcome to their privileges but definitely not at the cost of security of the common man ,
the nation who dont have selfrespect no regard them either
@pankaj: "they are not Bollywood stars that everyone knows them"
Everyone does not even know Bollywood stars. Have you forgotten about Shah Rukh Khan at NY immigration?
@afzaalkhan: right, like the Immigration department has no job but to follow around people whom they grant visa. He's got to have his paperwork with him when he is in a foreign country. And please next time you do find an Indian without paperwork in your country, please please and please detain and him/her and let the law of your land take course. OK?
I always wanted to visit India one day, but if a Pakistani minister is treated like this, it gives a very negative signals. Do they check passports of every visitor in Ajmer? They just wanted to humiliate them!
These are eminent people and should have been treated with better consideration in India. But why did they not have their passports with them? Even someone with a small bit of intelligence will know that if you venture out to another country without a passport, then you are asking for trouble. Travel between India and Pakistan is not possible without passport and visa. That's the legal position. Didn't Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain know this?
To the many Pakistanis who are outraged that he was expected to follow Indian law and who were similarly outraged in the Rahat Fateh Ali Khan case, I would like to simply say this. Yes, like Pakistan, in India too we have historically tolerated a feudal mindset where the rich and powerful are not subject to law which only lowly unconnected Indians need to follow. But in the past few years there has been a change. Civil society and media are fighting back against this attitude and even Sonia Gandhi's son in law is under the scanner. This is a change for the better and instead of making this to be an India - Pakistan issue, you should also push for such changes in your own country. Feudalism has had its day. It is now time for the mango man.
wow chaudhari sahib did u nt realise that he is out of pakistan
@Someone: Our politicians are always welcome in KSA. Our poor people on the other hand, like poor people around the world are mistreated. In India and Pakistan we mistreat and discriminate our own poor people, why talk about travelling to other countries?
@vasan: Are you sure you understand?
It is a required by law in India and most other countries that foreigners alway carry their passport and other essential documents on their person when they are traveling in a foreign country. They are expected to produce these document whenever requested. I am sure these procedural requirements are clearly stated in their visa application forms.
@Nand
So out of thousands of ppl there ur "mahan" police immediately knew he was pakistani. Gimme a break LOL
@Aarvey,india: I agree with you. There was no need for him to go to INDIA. If he did he should have followed the LAW OF LAND. I hope HE and HIS group members will learn some thing out of it.
There has to be more to the story. Indian Police is not in the habit of randomly stopping foreigners outside a shrine and asking for documents.
Rules of any country need to be obeyed. I am also dreaming of visiting the nani mandir, the biggest shaktipeeth, in Balochistan one day, and I will have to carry my docs everywhere with me but carrying a passport only to have it potentially misplaced is not a good idea.
@Much Amused: I think it started when when worshipers wanted to go for prayers in mosques, churches and temples in a foreign country.
@ afzaalkhan, @ Usman. If you don't carry your documents in a foreign country, get ready for consequences. As a member of Parliament and Ex. PM, he should follows rules more than ordinary people. VIP status is not written on a person's forehead, nor its judged by looks or personality. Some kind of official document is required for proof.
they are not Bollywood stars that everyone knows them...they are from pakistan.. they should be extra careful... respect the law...
They should have cutshort their visit in protest. But then what can we expect from the likes of Chaudrys
What is it with Indians that they had detained our beloved leader, I think it was a ruse, they just wanted to convince him in private to stay in India and server their nation as he has proved to Pakistanis how smart and "honest" he was during Mush's time.
@afzaalkhan: Is it written on his forehead that he is a Member of Parliment of Pakistan. When it was verified, he was immediately free to go.
@Cosmo
He is not an unknown person, he is in India obviously your immigration let him in on basis he had relevent documents. While on eid prayers he was specifically identified and stopped by Police so there goes your argument that it was regular checkup. So next time an indian get same treatment here I expect you to say yep good job Pakistan.
@Naseem Ch:
I was going to say the same but you beat me to it. A 1,000,000 recommends !
@S. Anwar Ali Shah, Advocate High Court:
Why would Ch. Shujaat carry his passport around Pakistan ?
@Indians
have you all understood what is written up there "as they did not have them in their possession at that time" we'r talking about the possession of passport copies when they were checked, not that they traveled without passport.
And when you have diplomatic passport not the ordinary, Nobody checks you then just to remind you. therefor this considers to be an unfair treatment if not then we will ask your Ministers to stop there and show their passports before they arrive in Islamabad !! GROW UP you stereotype !!
@afzaalkhan:
He was not on official visit. Its his private visit, but regardless he needs to follow our rules when in India. Please dont make this an issue like rahat fateh ali khan
@afzaalkhan So, Ajmer Police is supposed to know your famous politicians?
@Ch. Allah Daad: never seen a person as biased as you!!!!!!!
@zadesk: if you travel w/o passport in any country , you will be thrown out... don't about the Pakistani... respect the laws of the nation and keep the Islam in pocket.
some laws are not to be broken...
The best part of any news piece here is the Indian comments, and most are air-heads trying to sound cool, pathetically trying to rank India with first world countries.
EX-PM of Pakistan, Right Hand of every Governemnt in Pakistan is absolutely ignorant of Law whereas ignorance of law has no excuse. Once his younger brother had to face similar situation at London Air Port and he had to face humilation which led bad name to the country. Every body is equal before the law. They must keep their identitiy with them when in public. Dont' become Chaudhry every where.
@Subhana: Not a good idea, can't risk a nuclear war between the two neighbours.
@Truth: " BTW don’t expect pakistanis to be welcomed anywhere across the globe, Even in your so called “brother” countries."
You talk with some heavy air, as if Indians are "welcomed" any better. Go to Saudi and see the treatment of your compatriots, and you'll understand perhaps :)
@zadesk: First of all what is the need for him to visit india.
@afzaalkhan: He may be an MP for u in your country bu for us he is a pakistani without the papaerwork and could turnout to be big liability like Ajmal Kasab! So please ye sub rob soob apne desh main hi chalana, hamare yahan tou kanoon chalte hain!!!
Always keep your travel documents with you when you are in foreign land-a very simple rule to avoid such like embarrassments.
Should we condemn Indian for performing their legal duties or should we plead the innocence of our own people who never fail to show up their feudalistic mentality where ever they go. One should not be on the wrong side of the law, as they say, but these parasitic politicians never bother to respect even the law of the land they are subject to, how can they be expected to behave otherwise while being on foreign land. this is not the first time that Chaudhry and his coterie got into trouble while being on foreign land. In Spain once they had to encounter the similar situation. I only hope and pray that they learn to respect the law of the land they happen to be in and behave like decent Pakistanis.
@zadesk: It is the simple rule in all foreign countries that you should carry either passport or some other doucument to prove your identity. Simple blaming India will not work
Please call his cousin Pervez Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi to Ajmer. Keep the entire khaandaan there. Pakistan will be ever grateful.
@ zadesk
@ Bob Eid Mubarak to all and especially to you both. Since it is a festival day, i will not respond to your unfair comments..
@Zadesk: "They could not provide their passports and copies to the Indian authorities, as they did not have them in their possession at that time." Read news first not the headlines.. BTW don't expect pakistanis to be welcomed anywhere across the globe, Even in your so called "brother" countries.
@Ch. Allah Daad
Really? I can understand your point if it was some ordinary citizen, this guy is Member of Parliment not some unknown person. This is absolute rubbish by Indian police and only done to humiliate this person. Instead of condemning it you are providing justification? For the record don't like Chaudhry's but he is pakistani so am gonna stand with him.
Dude, Ajmer is not in Pakistan. Rule of law applies to everyone here. Being in a foreign country (especially the one you consider your biggest enemy) you should carry the documents with you.
I mean all pakistani brothers are welcome in india with open heart, but please follow our rules. and we should do the same when we visit your country.
@zadesk: Oh put a sock in it will ya? You dont want to follow rules of a foreign nation and cry hoarse about attitudes? Shut up...
During visit of a foreign country, always carry your passport and other documents where ever you go. India has same security problems as we do in Pakistan. Its a fault of Pakistani delegation and they should learn lesson from it.
Chaudhry Sahiban, this is India not Pakistan
@zadesk: Everything for you comes down to religion.Please think beyond that.
This is pure and simple harassment. Since when did worshippers carry passports etc when going to prayers in mosques, churches, temples etc????
zadesk : Yeah you are right, That is how even Kasab couldnt produce his passport and was detained. We are not part of your great ummah not to travel without passport. Understand ??
Aman ki aasha ;)
Great, please keep him and his son there. Don't send them back please
We all must raise our voice against this treatment of Indian Officials as it is showing the attitude of the Indian mind about the Pakistan. However, we must not reciprocate the same to show the difference between followers of Muhammad PBUH and so called secularists. But must raise our voice at every forum and condemn.
