Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court on Thursday cancelled the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) notification to impose additional tax on incoming international phone calls.
The judge also ordered the PTA chairman to submit a reply against the levy by November 5, the next date of hearing.
The court issued a restraining order on a petition of a company, m/s Brain Telecommunication Company.
The petitioner submitted that PTA had unlawfully imposed the additional tax. He said that PTA had also violated competition commission’s rules. He said that overseas Pakistanis faced difficulties due to the implementation of this tax.
He requested the court to declare it unlawful and restrain the PTA from charging additional taxes.
While opposing the petition, the PTA said it was not an unlawful move and the additional tax was being collected in the better interest of the country.

asslam i alikum we are facing this call tax problem since 2 months. this time we are tiered. please we are requesting cheif justice of pakistan mercy us.
Lahore high court decision hasn’t been implemented yet. I’m still making very expensive calls to Pak. Ok. judge has made the decision but for how long we have to wait for this decision to be implemented OR it’ll never be implemented. It’ll be miracle if the decision is honored in my beloved country of Pakistan in this present govt. Anyway… has anyone idea when this will happen ? Thanks
PTA is still charging enhanced rate..no deduction is applied..wha is effect of high court decision on PTA...
Despite the news item of withdrawal of tax, no notification in this regard has been issued and the companies are charging the enhanced rate. I request PTA to issue the required notification in this regard.
A lote of pakistani in out of mother land thay have very big problem from in coming call tax i have request for those people to remove the tax on incoming call tax =thanks
November 22nd NOTHING has been done about this! Calls to Pakistan still expensive... People boycott calling Pakistan... USE other telecommunication tools. Since Zardari has casted his shadow on PTA its dubious actions have increased and all work done by the Musharraf government to make it more competitive and responsible institution has gone WASTED.
November 13th and so far, NOTHING has been done about this.
The 5th November passed, but no update, all expat Pakistanis are waiting for the fate of the case as the companies are charging the 6 times of amount saying GoP has imposed the tax.

That was a great and brave decision of The Respected Judge. Today is 5th of November. 10 Days ago the decision was taken but still waiting for the implementations
No one are calling to Pakistan due to implementation of high tax rate...... Overseas Pakistanis are now a days facing the communication Problem....it;s unlawful and illegal way to generate profit...
I salute the person who filed this case. A lot of people will use skype or just do not call. Yes, people are using skype, but a lot of people who are busy use mobile phones to call to familiy and friends.. I know I alot of people are stopped making calls here from Denmark..
