A party spokesperson said that the chiefs were elected for two years beginning from November 2012 to 2014. The acting provincial chief and secretary general, Shabbir Ahmed Khan, made the appointments based on recommendations of party members from the districts.
The JI’s head for Peshawar district, Advocate Bahrullah Khan, will retain his post for another two years, Shabbir said. All district chiefs will take oath next week.
Besides reorganising at the district level, the JI is also looking to select a new provincial chief for a three-year term starting from November 1.
The current provincial head, professor Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, will complete his tenure on October 31. Mohammad along with deputy chiefs Mushtaq Ahmed Khan and Maulana Mohammad Ismail, is among three candidates being nominated to the party’s provincial shura.
