Consumer court: Vendor to pay damages for selling rickshaw without CNG kit

Court awards Rs80,500 in damages.

A consumer court on Wednesday directed New Asia Automobiles to install a CNG kit in a rickshaw and pay Rs80,500 as compensation to a petitioner.


The petitioner Rasheed Ahmed submitted that on May 14 he had purchased a 4-stroke rickshaw from New Asia automobiles for Rs128,000 but it had no CNG kit installed  in it. He said he asked the respondent to install a CNG-kit in the said rickshaw. The court had initiated started ex-parte proceedings against the respondent after they did not respond to court notices.

The court on Wednesday directed respondent to install a CNG-kit. The judge directed the respondent to pay Rs80,500 in damages for restraining the petitioner’s livelihood. The compensation was calculated at Rs500 per day for 161 days from May 14 to till October 24.

The petitioner had asked for Rs500,000 in damages.
