Receiving a warm welcome at his arrival in Lahore after being appointed as Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) central Punjab president, Manzoor Ahmed Watto said that with cooperation from allied parties, the PPP will come to power in Punjab too after the next general elections.
He was addressing supporters at Nasir Bagh on Monday where he was taken by a large number of PPP workers in shape of a rally from the airport.
PPP leaders present at the occasion who also addressed the gathering included Tanveer Ashraf Kaira, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Raja Riaz, Zulfiqar Gondal, Samina Khalid Ghurki, Aslam Gill and Mian Ayub.
Wattoo said President Asif Ali Zardari has given him the “special responsibility” for Punjab and he would not let him down with the support of the party workers under any circumstances.
He guaranteed PPP’s coalition partners, especially the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), that he would continue the positive relations with them to establish better political environment for all in Punjab.
Meanwhile, PPP’s newly-appointed Central Punjab Secretary Tanveer Ashraf Kaira, while addressing the rally, said that the province of Punjab was a political hub of the PPP and the next general elections would establish the ruling party’s foothold there.
