Foiled attempt: BDS defuses 24kg of explosives

SHABQADAR: Six rockets were defused on Sunday by the bomb disposal squad (BDS) in Said Wali Colony, Sro Kallay in Charsadda. Police official Shaukat Khan said that residents informed the police that six rockets had been hidden in the area by militants. The explosive material was kept in a bag which was taken to the police station where the BDS defused them. According to the BDS, the bag contained approximately 24 kilogrammes of explosives. “The large amount of explosives could have led to lot of destruction if they had exploded,” an official of the BDS told The Express Tribune. In a similar incident, 50kg explosives were found by officials two days ago, one kilometre away from Akhon Zafar Baba area in the jurisdiction of Khwajawas Korona police. Power supply towers and government schools in this area have also been targeted in the past.
