With serious differences among the party leadership, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to postpone intra-party elections for its Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) chapters till next year.
PTI leaders dealing with intra-party elections told The Express Tribune on Friday that the party will not be able to hold elections for its office-bearers in G-B and AJK till next year since the party’s constitution is under scrutiny as there are differences among leaders over the election mechanism.
“We have decided to postpone intra-party elections in G-B and AJK for two main reasons. Firstly, because of differences among leaders over the exact framework in formulating a party hierarchy and, secondly, due to the ongoing study of PTI’s constitution by legal attorneys,” a senior official of the party informed this correspondent.
The decision came after PTI’s announcement that it will hold intra-party elections on November 2 in Islamabad.
Sources told The Express Tribune that various leaders including, Jamal Khan Leghari, Mian Azhar and Mian Mehmood Rashid, Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri, Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali and Sikandar Bosan have conveyed their concerns to Imran Khan.
A leader highlighted the fact that the aforementioned members have not yet been given any party office and confirmed that there are differences over “the exact framework to be followed in formulating a party hierarchy.”
A PTI leader feared that the party might not be able to meet the deadline to conduct its intra-party elections due to incomplete voter lists. “It will take 12 to 14 weeks to complete the voters’ registration process,” he said, adding that there is still a need to establish offices and interim bodies in AJK and G-B for party elections.
However, Ahmed Jawad, head of Central Media Cell Islamabad says, “PTI will successfully conclude its intra-party elections by the end of this year.”

This is just a lull before the wickets keeping falling. No powerply, only tsunami
@Agar Gupta:
ET also should face the criticism.
@Nasir: This reporter reported true. Critical reporting is the best one. PTI should face criticism. ET reporting critically which is the best form of modern media. Good approach ET.
ET turning into Khabrain Newspaper of 90'S. I thought ET will be the best English newspaper with new trends but it turning into a tabloid newspaper. This reporter seems to be on mission always gives negative reports about PTI and Imran Khan. I am disappointed . I am regular reader of ET from UK .
We will not vote criminals this time who robbed the country money. Khan we trust you.
ET at it yet again. Why are we confusing PTI intra party elections of AJK and GB with those in the rest of the country? Instead of highlighting the fact that preparations are indeed done for elections in four provinces, what we see in the report is how elections ARE NOT going to be held in AJK and GB where PTI hasn't been focusing much? And what do the leaders mentioned have anything to do with GB and AJK?
Disappointed yet again at this style of reporting.
@Ahmed
Bro...you forget pti is not in power. What would you have them do? Maybe we should be asking the govt national and provincial what they have done to improve the country? No wonder pti is so popular.
PTI has just recently made inroads in AJK and GB. So it does not matter much if PTI elections in those areas are delayed by few months.
ET is only news website which even gives coverage to PTI news. Others still see PTI as cry-loud-do-nothing kind of outfit...
A better headline would mention Asghar khan case but oh wait this is ET
If you can't manage your own party and won't allow timely elections what makes you think you can manage Pakistan?
Please don't try to confuse people. as the people and specially the youth has decide to vote for PTI. I with my 250 supporter will vote PTI even if PTI selects a tree as a candidate. We love PTI and Pakistan.
Imran is making History.
my vote is still 100% for IK
As long as Imran Khan does not boycott the next elections, this should be ok.
it's an American Conspiracy, i demand a dharna
ET editorship is seriously doubted, its turning into a Tabloid.
Interesting to see that all the negative news in article is attributed to unnamed sources but the positive news is from a named person. But 90% of article space is given to th negative news!
If a senior leader of pti is talking to et....just name him!
it was very cool to see my name on voter list in islamabad chapter elections.will probably vote. Democracy starts here!
PTI should be appreciated for holding in-party elections, Express tribune did not high lite the elections which were held in other areas.
Next year is only 10 weeks away. No big deal. It's going to take that long to hold elections in other areas. Remember pti does not have govt resources to hold elections country wide simultaneously.
I wonder if the editor considers this a balanced view? I genuinely want to know...because maybe we have different understanding of the word balanced.
Internal Party Elections is the single most important thing PTI needs right now...so the less they postpone it, the better it would be for the party.
ET is anti PTI i think so may be it is wrong but the efforts seem.
The heading could be: PTI will hold intra-party elections on November 2 in Islamabad but then its ET
Again a negative heading by ET. Why couldnt you highlight the intra-party elections being held in all other provinces before December, inshaAllah.
No Big Deal,Intra-party elections can be held next year too...Don't make it an issue now..
Wait for the official press release before spreading rumours,. oh wait, . I forgot I was reading Express Tribune
who ever want to leave, just leave it. we want leaders who are in party for pakistan not themself. my vote will remain for IK
no need to spread thin....
The great man.
