A customs official was injured in firing on Thursday morning. According to a press release issued by the Federal Board of Revenue, Zarghem Dil, Superintendent Customs (Preventive), Model Customs Collectorate, was shot by two persons when he was leaving his house for work.
He was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), from where he was later shifted to Shifa International. His condition is stated to be out of danger.
The press release said the attack appears to be a result of a recent anti-smuggling campaign under which 42 vehicles and Rs120 million were seized during the past three months. Eighteen people were also arrested.
Meanwhile, young doctors suspended services at the main emergency ward of Pims after a scuffle between Dil’s security guards and a doctor over wrong parking.
The doctors suspended services for over two hours to protest “lack of security arrangements at the hospital”. Later, Dr Abdul Razzaq and Dr Ali lodged a complaint with the Margalla police against Amir Shehzad, the driver of the vehicle and his armed accomplices for beating up a doctor and bringing weapons inside the hospital.
The police said they did not receive any counter version from the accused party. However, no FIR was registered till the filing of this report.
According to the complainants, Dr Razzak asked the driver, Shehzad, to remove his vehicle from in front of the emergency ward. Shehzad, however, refused to oblige and started arguing. The guards joined in and roughed up Dr Razzaq, said the complainants.
The Young Doctors Association has announced a strike on Friday and demanded the Pims administration to impose a ban on bringing weapons to the hospital.
