Armed men in Karak attack police station after aide arrested

Crossfire between policemen, assailants underway; heavy police contingent deployed to area.

KARAK: At least 15 armed men launched an attack on a police station in Karak district after police took one of their aides into custody, Express News reported on Wednesday.

Security personnel of the Shah Saleem police station, which lies near the border of Bannu district, arrested a man and took him into custody following which around 15 to 20 assailants attacked the police station.

Crossfire between police and the assailants ensued and a heavy contingent of police was deployed to the area.

Earlier, gun and rocket launcher-toting militants conducted a brazen attack on a police check post late Sunday night on the outskirts of Peshawar, sparking firefights that left six policemen, including a senior officer, dead and 15 others injured.
