Tennis: Georges through to second round

LUXEMBOURG: Julia Goerges downed Silvia Soler in straight-sets to go through to the second round of the Luxembourg Open. She took little time in seeing off her Spanish opponent to register a 6-2, 6-1 win. In other matches, Serbia player Jelena Jankovic prevailed over Shuai Peng after the latter retired, trailing 3-0. Roberta Vinci defeated Olga Govortsova 6-0, 2-6, 6-0, while Sorana Cirstea beat Petra Martic 6-2, 6-2.
