
As the ruling party showed its strength in Hyderabad, the Sindhi nationalists observed a “black day” across the province against the new local government law on Monday. A day earlier, hundreds of nationalist activists had been allegedly picked up by law enforcers.
A mourning day was observed on the call of the Save Sindh Committee against the public gathering of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in favour of the Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO), 2012.
Apart from different nationalist parties, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pir Pagara-led Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) also joined in. Sit-in protests were also held in Thatta, Sujawal, Gharo, Bathoro, Badin, Matli, Talhar, Golarchi, Matiari, Tandojam and Mirpurkhas.
In Tando Muhammad Khan, hundreds of people marched from Station Road to Hyderabad-Badin Road but the police stopped them before they could reach near to venue of the PPP rally. The participants were carrying eggs and tomatoes to throw them at the ruling party’s supporters.
In Karachi, the nationalists announced launching a massive campaign against the new local government law after Eidul Azha.
Addressing a press conference held at Hyder Manzil, Sindh United Party’s Shah Mehmood Shah said that the people of Sindh by observing the black day have showed that they will not accept the new local governments at any cost. The nationalist leaders termed the ruling party’s gathering in Hyderabad a “celebration of Sindh’s division”.
