Gunned down: Jeweller killed, three injured in Quetta

QUETTA:

A man was killed and three others were injured in a firing incident in Quetta on Sunday.

Talking to The Express Tribune, city police Station House Officer (SHO) Ahmed Shah said that a man identified as Mohammad Ishaq was gunned down on Abdul Sattar road. Ishaq was just returning home when unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on him. He died on the spot.

Three others, including his son, brother and the rickshaw driver he was heading home with were injured, Shah revealed.

Police rushed to the spot soon after and cordoned off the area. The deceased and injured were taken to the Civil Hospital for autopsy and treatment.  The deceased was later confirmed to be Ishaq, owner of the Ishaq Jewelers shop.

Some sources suggested the attack had a sectarian motive as Ishaq belonged to the Shia community. Police have registered a case against unknown assailants and investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, two people were killed and two others were wounded when a dilapidated house wall collapsed in the Naseerabad district on Sunday.

According to police, the house had been affected by the recent monsoon floods. Two persons, identified as Qasim and Abdur Rehman died on the spot when the wall caved in. Two others, namely Rahib Ali and Moula Bakhsh were seriously injured.

“The deceased and injured were retrieved from the debris soon after the incident and moved to a nearby state-run hospital,” a police official said.

Police handed over the bodies to the heirs afterwards.
