Taliban attack: SP among five security personnel killed in Peshawar
In a surprise attack on the Ghaziabad and Frontier Road check posts at around 10pm, militants equipped with RPG-7 rockets and heavy machine guns, fired shots at the Mattani police station.
Despite being short of ammunition and heavily outnumbered, police and FC personnel retaliated with gun fire which continued for almost 45 minutes.
Militants had occupied the high ground around the check posts and fired from there.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Fazal-e-Mula said that SP Khan had reached the spot after the attack and was leading his men when he was hit by machine gun fire. His gunman was also among the dead.
“SP Khurshid is among the dead along with other men,” said Fazal-e-Mula, which Station House Officer Matani Ishrat Yar also confirmed.
A large contingent of police, led by SP Khan and DSP Fazal-e-Mula, from the Badabher police station had been deployed to the area.
Militants over ran the Ghaziabad check post building and torched it completely, also killing several FC personnel at the check post.
The injured comprised seven FC personnel and three policemen. They were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH).
DSP Fazal-e-Mula added that dozens of militants were involved in the attack and a search operation had been initiated for militants, still hiding in the dark.
This was the second such attack in the past 12 hours. Earlier in the morning an FC constable was killed in a sniper attack on the Frontier Road in Sheikhan in the jurisdiction of Badabher police station.

Shameful. Mullahs killing our army and policemen. The government is a part of this game. It was their duty to provide protection to citizens. But they left the whole nation to the mercy of these beasts. If dialogue not working, why not gov come into action. They failed to provide security to people and now they are suffering.
Our condolences go out the families and friends of the Police Superintendent, Khurshid Khan and others killed in this act of terror. Our prayers are with those who are injured for a fast and complete recovery. These terrorists have killed thousands of civilian and security personnel. These policemen are sacrificing their lives and in return what do they get !! salaries like peanuts !I there is nobody to take care of their children after them. The benefits and allowances their widows get is not even sufficient enough to run home for 5 days. Anyways May their souls rest in peace and give patience to their families to bear this unrepairable loss

We must ask the Pakistani military establish the same question, it seems like the half hearted action has not worked and it time for them take decisive action to eliminate these elements amongst us. The rest will fall inline.

@Adil Saleem Khan, it IS a military conflict not a political one. Note the use of RPG's on law enforcement personnel. Govt has no writ in tribal areas where these sub humans are running the show. However, the tragic part is the absence of Pakistan Army. They are sacrificing the civilian law enforcement officers in a strictly military conflict. You need regular army contingents, not paramilitary or police force, to rout these cowards who shoot from distance and have first initiative and element of surprise. Our paramilitaries are not properly trained. They crumble under surprise attacks and surrender. The very fact that the check post was situated at the lower ground, shows lack of understanding of terrain in a war like zone. This check post is like a sitting duck for people possessing a high calibre or heavy weaponry, very basic military concept. For God’s sake general Kayani, what are you waiting for? If the US can dislodge them from the seat of Afghan government during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001 without dropping a single regular army personnel, only through Special Ops forces, then I am sure you can subdue them on your own soil. The cowards who shoot 14 years old girl are no match for you. Make the nation proud, for this is a direct challenge for which you had been trained at a very high human cost. The cost which could have been expended on modern education, health care, employment for masses to name a few.
