Health facility: PKI to set up 400-bed hospital

PKI CEO urges people to donate for the new institute as it will serve as “a ray of hope for underprivileged people”.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Kidney Institute (PKI) will soon establish a 400-bed hospital in Chak Shahzad, said a statement issued by the non-for-profit organisation on Saturday. The hospital, which will include departments of urology, nephrology and kidney transplant, will be established on 20 acres of land donated by Comsats Institute of Information Technology. The project will be completed at a cost of $107.73 million. PKI Chief Executive Officer Dr Saeed Akhtar, who is also the head of Kidney Transplant department at Shifa International Hospital, told media persons that the organisation has been providing medical treatment to poor patients since 2004 and aims to put an end to illegal organ trade. He urged people to donate for the new institute as it will serve as “a ray of hope for underprivileged people”.
