Child rights: Govt committed to protecting children

Prime Minister says Ministry of Human Rights is mandated to implement UN treaties and core human rights instruments.

ISLAMABAD: The present government has taken a number of initiatives to protect the rights of the children with ensuring their access to education, health, protection and developmental opportunities, said Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Friday. While addressing the concluding session of the two-day national conference on child rights, organised by the Ministry of Human Rights here at local hotel, the Prime Minister said that the ministry is mandated to implement UN treaties and core human rights instruments including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, its Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography and South Asia Initiative to End Violence Against Children.
