“A legal notice has been sent to Daily Telegraph,” Younus’ lawyer Ahmed Qayyum told The Express Tribune. “My client has demanded that the newspaper should apologise for tarnishing his image and publish a denial while also paying damages of £10,000 to any charity of their choice towards the flood-relief fund.”
Mazhar, who acted as an agent for a few Pakistani players, was arrested on Saturday evening by Scotland Yard but was later released without charge on bail. The Majeed brothers are known figures in the Pakistan camp with extensive links with the domestic and national team players whom they have helped sign various club and league contracts in England.
“Younus was never linked with or had any contract with Majeed. The Majeed brothers did offer Younus to sign them as their agents but he didn’t want a UK-based Pakistani agent so opted for someone else.”
Mazhar’s arrest came following a News of the World report that alleged that he had paid Pakistani fast-bowlers Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif a sum to bowl deliberate no-balls in the fourth Test against England at Lord’s. Video footage obtained by a hidden camera showed Majeed boasting he had links with the players in the current team.
