Cracker bomb explodes in Benazir International Airport parking lot

The bomb exploded while BDS officials examined a suitcase for explosives.

RAWALPINDI: A cracker bomb inside a suitcase exploded in a parking lot of the Benazir International Airport while BDS officials were examining it for explosives, Express News reported on Thursday.

The cracker bomb was inside a hand-carry suitcase and was placed in the Pakistan Internation Airlines (PIA) staff’s parking lot.

Witnesses said the suitcase had been resting there since the previous night.

Despite being informed, security officials did not take any action in this regard. In the morning, when PIA staff staged a protest, Rangers and BDS officials arrived at the scene.

While the bag was being examined for explosives, a cracker bomb inside the bag blew up. The BDS cordoned off the area and further investigations are underway.

Zoe Head | 12 years ago | Reply It was a negligent act on the parts of the officials. They were probably too complacent about the safety of their airport or the fact that there was no history of explosions or other acts of terrorism that has ever happened in the airport. What then if it was a devastating explosive that might take innocent lives? I think the airport should heighten their level of security to prevent such thing from happening.

Everyday there is a new case of incompetence in Pakistan govt officials. They cannot offer any protection/ safety to its citizens. I am not going to make my child suffer by living in Pakistan.
