LONDON: The England selectors named the squads for the Twenty20 and One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan, omitting star batsman Kevin Pietersen from both.

Much to the batsman’s disappointment, he will now play the remainder of the season with Surrey and faces the prospects of discliplinary action after announcing his omission on Twitter.

“Pietersen has been omitted from both squads as we feel that his game would be best served by getting as much cricket under his belt as possible before a long and challenging winter,” said selector Geoff Miller.

The Twenty20 squad of 12 players, captained by Paul Collingwood, sees both Steven Davies and Craig Kieswetter selected, the former assigned the role of wicketkeeper. Davies has also been included in the ODI squad of 14, Kieswetter’s omission the only change from the Twenty20 squad along with the addition of captain Andrew Strauss, Jonathan Trott and Ajmal Shahzad.

Strauss will line up for Middlesex’s Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture against Derbyshire on September 4 before joining up with the ODI squad on September 8 ahead of the first match on September 10.

While Shahzad has been selected in the ODI squad, he will be available to play for Yorkshire throughout the series when deemed suitable by the England management.

Ryan Sidebottom will also join the England Twenty20 squad in Cardiff while Kieswetter will play in Somerset’s 50-over tour match against Pakistan at Taunton on Thursday.
