Supreme Court takes suo motu notice of Balochistan Vani incident
Initiating the hearing, a three-member bench called for a report from the chief secretary Balochistan and the deputy commissioner of Dera Bugti and issued an order for the arrest of suspects involved.
During the hearing, DC Dera Bugti informed the court that the Vani incident was a month old and the jirga was held in Barkhan instead of Dera Bugti.
He also said that the number of girls bartered was seven.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry inquired what action had been taken if the matter was a month old.
The advocate general replied saying the girls had not been handed over as yet.
Mir Tariq Masoori Bugti, a lawmaker in the Balochistan Assembly, is said to have conducted the jirga, which was attended by tribal elders and notable locals, in the Baikar area of Phelawagh.
The court issued summons to Masoori, the girls’ parents and all members of the jirga.
Earlier, it had been reported that 13 young girls had been bartered to settle a blood feud between two tribes in Dera Bugti.
The girls — aged between four and 16 — were given in Vani by a tribal jirga which arbitrated a five-month-old blood feud between the Baloch tribes of Masoori and Shahwani Masoori. Both are sub-clans of the Bugti tribe.

To be fair the SC can and should take suo motu in this case. However, they should ask the Baluchistan HC or local judges to do their job. SC has too many cases like Asghar Khan, killings in Baluchistan, Karachi, Shia ethnic cleansing, OBL's presence in army base, and other cases of national interest and importance that require SC's immediate attention and provincial HC cannot deal with them.
Why blame judiciary or the police?. What about the society, educated people, mullahs, politicians? Is it not blasphemy to uproot Qur'an and practice vani

DC Dera Bugti should be fired at once. Do it and see how Bureaucrats (including police since most police officers are members of the PSP) rush to take action against such practices in the future.

This is nothing but an eyewash. First of all why not arrest the person who killed some one and charge him with first or second degree murder to let the population know that only accused get punished and not the family members associated with the accused. Order a speedy trial to show that law and order situation has improved.
Summons the local police officer for not arresting the accused.
Second summons Mir Tariq Masoori Bugti, a lawmaker in the Balochistan Assembly to the SC and ask why the life in prison of the man accused was traded for the life in prison for these seven girls?
Ban all public office holders from attending the Jirga or criminal matters.
