Sources told Express News that the dynamic young cricketer had not filed papers for income garnered from the Pakistan Cricket Board, and other sources, as well as assets accumulated in 2011.
FBR claimed it has repeatedly issued Akmal notices to provide information on his income, but the cricketer reportedly failed to do so.
Sources added that the hefty income tax was determined after acquiring details of his assets and bank accounts, adding that Akmal had been advised to deposit the due tax amount into the national treasury.

Why does he use fair & lovely? He's not creepy because of his skin tone.
FBR is dysfunctional and sleeping. Only about 5,75,000 business returns were filed last year and FBR has over 20,000 staff and officers working. One wonders what do they do?
I think FBR misscalculated, it can not be possible ,that a cricketr of Pakistan can earn so much money, so early of his time,to pay Rs 75 lakhs amount.
I am sure, this is not true, some miss calculation
I think, never in history of Pakistan, a single person, paid his personal tax so big.
Imran Khan paid, Rs 7000, N Sharif paid, Rs 11000, an so on
What a joke with Umer Akmal
If a nation has to be successful, the citizens have to pay taxes and follow the laws, no matter who they are. The culture of evading taxes in Pakistan needs to be stopped. If Pakistanis can come out of this mindset, then the future may indeed be bright for them.
When was the last time FBR issued tax notices to politicians, bureaucrats, armed forces or any other person being paid through our taxes? These are the culprits who should be the most answerable, yet they are subject to zero scrutiny and accountability, while accumulating wealth far beyond their means.
@ Green Oval, Its not for one year, the amount he owes is accumulated since he started international cricket.
Not having to pay taxes is a good thing. If you believe in free market economics then you know that money is better off in the hands of private individuals than in the state coffers. Those who earn money know best how to spend it!
@Mohammad Ali Siddiqui: They go for other people also. His name is in the newspaper because he is famous. I know from my personal experience they audit companies and individual and told to pay there dues.
We need to develop a sense of responsibility in our society that paying taxes makes it a part of our respect and honor. Then everyone will pay taxes.
If the tax for a year is Rs7.589 million then what's the worth of the assets, PCB really pays that much to its cricketer, not sure if he is in A catogry contract, so how did he accumulate all this where he is required to pay the taxes in access of RS. 75 lakhs.
No doubt that Pakistanis don't want to pay taxes and are shamelessly ready to accept alms even from India, like in floods. My hard earned taxed money went in that.
its a well needed start , desperately need to develop a tax culture where people know that they have to pay taxes.
Good work FBR. Go after every tax evader.
What do you mean "imposes" Income Tax? Its not a fine that he has to pay, its due.
Why not FBR have collected information on the people who are earning hefty amount and not paying the tax?
Out of the total number of people who are suppose to file their income tax returns, only 2 million Pakistanis, most of which are salaried employees (whose income tax is deducted at source) are paying the tax.
Why FBR was only locate Umar Akmal to issue the notice and why not the other people in the country.
Probably, Umar Akmal may have refused to pay bribe to the income tax officials and the rest of the people who are not paying tax in the country may be greasing the palms of income tax officials?
