Ten IEDs defused in North Waziristan Agency

MIRANSHAH:

At least 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were defused by security forces in North Waziristan Agency’s Razmak subdivision on Saturday.

A security official told The Express Tribune that the forces encountered the IEDs during movement on the Razmak-Miranshah road.

The devices were intended for security forces’ vehicles travelling on the road, he added. The official informed the IEDs were planted at different spots along the road and could have resulted in heavy casualties.

In September, a total of 14 IED explosions were reported in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), claiming both the lives of civilians and security personnel. Nine of these were reported in Khyber Agency and two each in Kurram, Orakzai and North Waziristan Agencies.

Following the military operation in Fata, most banned outfits have abandoned surgical attacks on security personnel and instead concentrated on targeting security convoys with IEDs.
