A Matter Of Honour: High price to pay

Dispute between the Khoso and Mazari tribesmen was resolved through a jirga held in Kashmore.

A karo kari dispute between the Khoso and Mazari tribesmen was resolved through a jirga held in Kashmore on September 30.

The Mazari clansmen were found guilty of murdering five Khoso men and injuring six others while the Khoso men were found guilty of killing one Mazari man and injuring another. They were asked to pay one million rupees per murder and Rs250,000 to Rs100,000 per injured. The tribes accepted the verdict and vowed not to fight again. It was announced that the Mazari tribe would pay Rs5.9million and the Khoso tribe would pay Rs1.1million. The first installment of the fine was due in October, the second will be made in November and the last installment is due in January 2013. Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari was leading the jirga and representing one of the tribes. The former taluaka nazim of Kashmore, Haji Abdul Rauf Khoso, Raheem Bux Khoso and elders of the Khoso tribe were also there. The jirga was held at the residence of Pakistan Peoples Party’s secretary in Kashmore, Israr Ahmed Khan Khoso.
